MARION — Scott Sebald pitched seven strong innings to lead the Normal CornBelters to a 5-1 Frontier League victory over the Southern Illinois Miners on Thursday night at Rent One Park.
Sebald allowed one run on six hits, striking out four and walking four. He upped his record to 7-1 and lowered his ERA to 2.70 before a crowd of 6,395.
Santiago Chirino had three hits and drove in a run for the CornBelters. Normal took a 2-0 lead in the third and added a three-run sixth to give Sebald a 5-0 cushion.
The only run he allowed was on a home run by Ryan Sluder in the bottom of the sixth.
Anthony Herrera and Francisco Carillo each pitched a scoreless inning in relief of Sebald.
The Belters are at home Friday for a 6:35 p.m. game against River City at the Corn Crib.
