BLOOMINGTON — The Bloomington Edge will host a free seminar on concussions in youth football with Dr. Amyas Kabir as the guest speaker Wednesday at the Chateau Hotel and Conference Center auditorium.
Kabir, who has more than 20 years experience treating professional and youth athletes, will discuss baseline testing, evaluation and management of post-concussive injuries.
The 6:30 p.m. event aims to provide parents with information on what concussions are, how they are diagnosed and treated and what the short and long-term effects are.
The goal is to help parents make an informed decision on whether or not to allow their children to play football or any other sport.
The state legislature is considering a proposal that would establish a minimum age for organized full-contact football. Illinois House Bill 4341, commonly known as the "Dave Duerson Act," would ban tackle football for children under 12.
