CRANBERRY TOWNSHIP, Pa. — Six different players scored the first three and last three goals of the game as the Central Illinois Flying Aces concluded preseason play Sunday with a 6-3 win over the Tri-City Storm at the USHL Fall Classic.
Lucas McGregor had a goal and an assist to finish as the team's top scorer in the preseason with three tallies and two helpers. Blake Evennou and Cory Babichuk also had a goal and an assist apiece for the Aces, who went 3-1 in official preseason games and also won an exhibition contest.
Central Illinois goalie Kris Carlson stopped 23 shots in picking up the win. Tyler Madden and Calen Kiefiuk had first-period goals and Regen Cavanagh sealed the win with an empty netter. Veteran defenseman Simon Butala had two assists.
Evennou netted the first goal seven minutes in and Madden followed three minutes later. Kiefiuk's power play score gave the Aces a 3-0 lead at the first break.
But Tri-City got goals from Jack Summers and Blais Richartz in the second to draw close. Tyler Ward tied the game with a power play tally three minutes into the third.
Babichuk put the Aces back in front with 11 minutes to play off an assist from Matt Gosiewski. McGregor pushed the margin to two goals with 4:41 remaining.
The Aces, who peppered Storm goalie Jake Barczewski with 41 shots, open the regular season Saturday at Youngstown.
