OMAHA, Neb. — Noah Cates and his Omaha Lancers teammates made Friday a tough night for the Central Illinois Flying Aces.
Cates had two goals and seven different Lancers found the net as Omaha roared to an 8-1 victory in the opener of a two-game series at Ralston Arena.
After Omaha scored three times in each of the first two periods, Max Andreev netted the lone Aces tally just 22 seconds into the third.
The Lancers, who boast the league's second-best record at 21-10-3, sandwiched the two Cates goals around Cole Gallant's marker in the first. Mick Kohler, Brendan Furry and Christian O'Neill tallied in the second while Filip Suchy and Michael Maloney, acquired from Central Illinois earlier Friday, completed the scoring.
Calen Keifiuk and Steven Agriogianis, who came over in the Maloney swap, assisted Andreev's goal for Central Illinois (12-20-4). Ryan Snowden stopped 12 of 16 shots in 27 minutes while Zach Stejskal made 17 saves on 21 shots in relief.
Vincent Purpura made 24 saves for Omaha. The teams finish the series with a 7:05 p.m. game Saturday.
