5 years ago (2013): In the final game of the Heart of Illinois Conference season and a battle of the league’s two undefeated teams, El-Paso Gridley's girls outlasted Tremont, 60-54. “Three years in a row, that’s crazy,” said EPG junior guard Rebekah Ehresman, who scored a game-high 19 points.
15 years ago (2003): Bloomington fell behind by as many as 15 points early in the second period, but 10 Dodie Dunson points later, Bloomington was back in the game and eventually overtook Danville, 67-64, in overtime. Dallas Marshall led BHS with 16 points and Dunson added 14.
25 years ago (1993): Illinois State’s 30-4 NCAA Tournament volleyball team capped the most successful season in school history by naming Kim Nelson, the 5-foot-9 outside hitter, as its most valuable player and most inspirational player. Nelson, a junior, was the Missouri Valley Conference Player of the Year.
50 years ago (1968): Five members of the Firestone team claimed the Men’s City Team Tournament bowling championship at Oakland Bowl with a 3,047 handicap total. They are Jim Arteman, Dick Hartzell, Jack Rohlen, Tom Lykins and Lee Spurgeon.
