5 years ago (2013): The Central Catholic High School girls basketball team won its fifth consecutive Corn Belt Conference championship with a 58-37 victory over Prairie Central. “I’m very proud of our girls,” said Central coach Debbie Coffman.

15 years ago (2003): Normal Community withstood a furious Normal West rally and pulled away for an 83-67 Big 12 Conference win before a festive, near-capacity crowd at Neuman Gym. Matt Miller scored 19 points with seven rebounds while leading NCHS to a 17-3 record.

25 years ago (1993): Illinois Wesleyan senior forward Steve Kuehl was named player of the week in the CCIW after the Titans won a pair of road games. Kuehl scored 23 points in an 83-78 win at Wheaton and added 19 with seven rebounds in a 79-71 victory at Carthage.

50 years ago (1968): The Board of Regents, which governs Illinois State and Northern Illinois, approved an expenditure of $11,125 for purchase and installation of overhead-mounted goals in Horton Field House. Basketball coach Jim Collie hails the change as a decided improvement in safety.
