5 years ago (2012): Facing a match point in the second game of the Class 3A Lincoln Regional, Bloomington's volleyball team battled back for a 22-25, 26-24, 25-13 win. “It was just a team effort,” said Joe Sanders, who has won 12 regionals in his 14 years as BHS coach.

15 years ago (2002): Bloomington junior running back James Wade, with his mom visiting from Georgia, used the extra motivation to rush for 237 yards and two touchdowns, extending the Purple Raiders’ regular-season winning streak to 34 games with a 24-3 win over Champaign Centennial.

25 years ago (1992): Illinois State’s men’s soccer team improved its record to 9-5-2 with a 2-1 victory over Arkansas-Little Rock at Adelaide Street Field. Freshman Jamie Burton gave ISU a 1-0 first-half lead, and another ISU freshman, Nick Kerry, added a second-half goal to secure the win.

50 years ago (1967): University High successfully defended its Corn Belt Conference cross country crown, scoring 39 points to nip Normal Community by one point. Doug Warlow of the Pioneers was the individual winner, covering the two-mile course in 10 minutes, 37 seconds.
