5 years ago (2012): Shane Bruning rushed for 180 yards and four touchdowns and Cory Eastham found the end zone six times as LeRoy broke the all-class IHSA record for scoring in a playoff game in a 78-46 victory over Flanagan-Cornell-Woodland in the second round of the Class 1A playoffs.

15 years ago (2002): UCLA men’s basketball coach Steve Lavin was the featured speaker at Central Catholic’s Boys Basketball Kickoff Dinner at the John R. Snyder Gymnasium, where he relished a chance to witness a link between the man for whom “The Pit” was named and the Saints’ new coach, Jeff Wulbrun.

25 years ago (1992): Junior forward Mike Groenenboom, a part-time starter for the Illinois Wesleyan basketball team last season, is not participating in early practices because of a virus. Groenenboom is described by head coach Dennie Bridges as “a lot bigger and stronger this year.”

50 years ago (1967): An 8-yard Jack Neal to Vince Lott pass gave University High a 7-0 lead, but Normal Community retaliated when tackle Rich Alvis intercepted a deflected lateral and hurried 10 yards for a touchdown in a 7-7 tie at Hancock Field, which gave U High its first Corn Belt Conference title since 1950.
