5 years ago (2013): Bloomington Junior Blaze forward Matt Donley has been named January’s Player of the Month by the Midwest Junior Hockey League. Donley scored 10 goals and assisted on 19 others to tally 29 points in just nine games for the month.

15 years ago (2003): Female athletes who participated at Illinois State from 1939-89 are finally getting their recognition. Beth Cothren, who enjoyed a 22-year career as a coach and athletic administrator at Illinois Wesleyan, is among those being awarded personalized Varsity-I letters.

25 years ago (1993): University of Missouri associate athletic director Joe Castiglione withdrew his name from the list of four finalists for the athletic director’s position at Illinois State. Illinois State has been without an athletic director since mid-October when Ron Wellman resigned to become athletic director at Wake Forest.

50 years ago (1968): Bill Soper, a senior at North Central College in Naperville, is not only the top swimmer on the college swimming team but recently received the significant honor of being named Who’s Who Among Students in American Colleges and Universities.
