5 years ago (2013): Jamie Russell scored six points in 30 seconds and recorded five second-half steals as Illinois State rallied from a 10-point deficit to capture a 66-60 Missouri Valley Conference women’s basketball victory before a Play4Kay game crowd of 3,114.

15 years ago (2003): Eureka College junior Shawn McGuire was named the Northern Illinois-Iowa Conference men’s basketball player of the week. McGuire led the Red Devils with 51 points in two games, including 9-of-11 shooting from 3-point range.

25 years ago (1993): Bloomington graduate Ken Gibson of UNLV won the AT&T Long Distance Award for highest 3-point field goal percentage in NCAA men’s Division I basketball games played in January. Gibson made 61 percent of his 3-point attempts.

50 years ago (1968): Bloomington High School — with Barry Smoots, Dave McDaniel and Tom Bowen winning individual titles — claimed its first Big 12 Conference wrestling championship in nine years. It was the Purple Raiders' second title in history.
