5 years ago (2012): Lewis University sophomore forward Jess Reinhart, a former Central Catholic star, was named the Great Lakes Valley Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Week. Reinhart averaged 22 points and 12 rebounds in two games last week.

15 years ago (2002): For the third straight season, Illinois State’s Christian Goy was named to the Missouri Valley Conference men’s cross country scholar-athlete team. Goy, a senior management major with a 3.40 grade-point average, won the 10-kilometer race at the recent MVC Cross Country Championships.

25 years ago (1992): Montana State sophomore Mark Aubry, a former standout guard at Seneca, will transfer to Illinois Wesleyan and be able to play basketball for the Titans this season. Aubry averaged 27.9 points per game his senior year in high school.

50 years ago (1967): Fred Young, who retired as commissioner of the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin after the 1966-67 season, will be the namesake of an award presented annually to the basketball player voted the conference’s outstanding player.
