5 years ago (2012): Heartland sophomore outfielder/first baseman Andrew McCafferty has committed to play baseball at Wright State. McCafferty batted .332 as a freshman with four home runs, three triples, 19 doubles and 51 runs batted in.

15 years ago (2002): Former Illinois State men’s basketball coach Will Robinson and women’s player Cathy Boswell will be among inductees into this year’s Missouri Valley Conference Athletics Hall of Fame. Robinson will receive the league’s Lifetime Achievement Award, and Boswell be recognized in the Institutional Great category.

25 years ago (1992): Jason Logsdon’s 11-yard touchdown pass to Jason Hartzold lifted Olympia to a 28-22 triple overtime triumph over Prairie Central in a Corn Belt Conference football game. Ryan Swindler rushed 27 times for 159 yards to lead the Spartans.

50 years ago (1967): Joe Barth, co-captain and star defensive end of Illinois Wesleyan’s football team, received a broken thumb in the Titans’ 40-30 victory over North Central. The durable Barth, however, is expected to see fulltime duty in his 24th successive game when the Titans play Carroll at Waukesha, Wis.
