5 years ago (2012): Illinois State sophomore soccer star Rachel Tejada was named the Missouri Valley Conference’s Player of the Year for the second consecutive season by a vote of the league’s coaches. The forward is just the second player in conference history to earn the award in consecutive seasons.

15 years ago (2002): Third-ranked and top-seeded Tremont rushed for 408 yards and steamrolled past eighth-seeded Bement 49-6 in a Class 2A first-round playoff rout. Adam James rushed for a game-high 135 yards on 12 carries, scoring on runs of 1, 5 and 6 yards.

25 years ago (1992): Second-half goals by Jan Ruehlicke and Dan Beck were not enough to hold off Southern Indiana in Illinois State’s regular season soccer finale. The Redbirds are 9-7-2 ahead of their match against Bradley in the first round of the Missouri Valley Conference tournament.

50 years ago (1967): Halfback Dave Jackson, sophomore speedster for Illinois, left the hospital after treatment for a high fever. He was withheld from practices but is expected to play in the upcoming game against Purdue.
