5 years ago (2012): Bloomington Blaze forward David Gilbert has been named the Central Hockey League Player of the Week. The seventh-round pick of the Chicago Blackhawks in 2009 had points in three games for the Blaze last week, finishing with four goals and four assists.

15 years ago (2002): Taylor Lierman of Bloomington placed first at the state Punt, Pass and Kick competition at Memorial Stadium in Champaign. Lierman won the boys 10-11 age division. If among the top four nationally, he will advance to the American Football Conference championship game in January.

25 years ago (1992): Seniors Jeff Mannix (football), Tracy Roberts (volleyball) and Ray Stroup (golf) have been named most valuable players in their respective fall sports at Clinton High School.

50 years ago (1967): With a share of its first Interstate Conference football championship in 17 years, Illinois State has their sights set on a bowl game. Mineral Water Bowl selection chairman John D. Glenn wrote ISU athletic director Milt Weisbecker that the committee “has followed your team very closely this season.”
