15 years ago (2003): Illinois State’s baseball team opened a week in Fresno, Calif., with an 8-4 victory over Pennsylvania. The Redbirds broke a 4-4 tie in the top of the eighth inning on Jay Molina’s sacrifice fly and added three runs in the ninth inning, two of them on Kevin O’Dell’s double.
25 years ago (1993): University High used a 6-0 spurt at the end of the third period to take a 34-31 lead, then held on for a 48-43 victory over Prairie Central in the Class A super-sectional at Redbird Arena. Brian Truttmann and James Abel combined for 11 of U High’s fourth-quarter points.
50 years ago (1968): Indiana State’s well-schooled basketball team posted a 98-93 upset victory over Illinois State in the championship game of the NCAA Great Lakes Regional Tournament. Indiana State was led by Fred Hardman, a 6-foot-5 Lexington High School product, with 21 points.
