5 years ago (2012): There will be a new Reggie Redbird on Illinois State’s campus next season. Reggie Lynch, a 6-foot-9½ inch, 230-pound forward/center from Edina, Minn., said he will sign a letter of intent next week to play basketball for ISU.

15 years ago (2002): Illinois Wesleyan senior running back John Spellman scored five rushing touchdowns and notched a sixth on a 15-yard pass from John Akin, setting marks for most rushing touchdowns in a game, most total touchdowns in a game, and most points in a game in the Titans' 57-29 conquest of Elmhurst College.

25 years ago (1992): Buffy Blust, a senior pitcher/outfielder who holds the University High single-season record for strikeouts, will sign a national letter of intent to attend Southern Illinois on a softball scholarship.

50 years ago (1967): Fred Young, long-time commissioner of the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin who resigned after the 1966-67 season, will be honored at the conference’s annual meeting at Illinois Wesleyan. Young was appointed commissioner in 1950.
