5 years ago (2012): Louisville coach Rick Pitino heaped praise on first-year Illinois State coach Dan Muller after the fifth-ranked Cardinals slipped past the Redbirds, 69-66, at the KFC Yum! Center in Louisville.

15 years ago (2002): Sophomore Brandon Holtz’s 16 points helped Bloomington hold off University High, 63-58, and improve to 4-0 while earning their first Intercity title since 1997. “I think this team is determined to turn things around,” said BHS coach Ron Rose.

25 years ago (1992): Senior linebacker/tight end Dan Sullivan was honored as the most valuable player on the University High football team at the squad’s awards banquet. U High finished 8-4 under first-year coach Dirk Smid, advancing to the quarterfinals of the Class 3A playoffs.

50 years ago (1967): Titan captain Dennis Kagel canned an 18-foot jumper with four seconds showing on the clock to give Illinois Wesleyan an opening 87-85 victory over Augustana in a College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin tussle.
