15 years ago (2003): Katie Cantrell, Illinois Wesleyan’s first winner of the CCIW Player of the Year Award, was selected Most Valuable Player for the Titans’ women’s basketball team. A 5-foot-10 guard from Normal Community, Cantrell set a school season record with 490 points and 82 3-pointers.
25 years ago (1993): Normal Community’s girls track team overcame snow, rain, 33-degree chill and a driving wind to tie Decatur Eisenhower for first in the sixth annual Bloomington Invitational. NCHS senior Andi Hardwick fought to her fourth straight title in the long jump with a record, 17 feet, 5 inches.
50 years ago (1968): Gary Shemoney sliced a bases-loaded single to left field in the last half of the seventh inning, giving Illinois Wesleyan a 5-4 victory over Bradley and a split in a nonconference doubleheader. Ron Krogh hit a home run in both games for the Titans, who lost the opener 7-2.
