5 years ago (2009): Illinois Wesleyan sophomore Eleanor Holisky was named co-swimmer of the week by the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin after a first-place finish in the 500-yard freestyle at a meet at Principia. She was second in the 200 intermediate medley.

15 years ago (1999): Six-foot-four Megan O’Connell of Springfield Sacred Heart-Griffin High School has announced she will sign a national letter of intent to play volleyball for Illinois State. This year she broke the state record for kills of 1,651 set by University High’s Rebecca Dady.

25 years ago (1989): Olympia High School, led by Tim O’Donnell’s 23 points, dismantled Central Catholic, 66-48, to take sole possession of the Corn Belt Conference basketball race. Tom Westerfield added 15 for the Spartans.

50 years ago (1964): Jerry Farmer, Hinsdale High School swimming coach, will be guest speaker at the Bloomington-Normal Swim Club’s annual meeting at Illinois State’s Student Union. Anyone not belonging to the Swim Club can attend the meeting. The dinner costs $1.25.
