EUREKA- There will be contested races for the Republican nominations in all three districts of the county board in the 2018 primary election set for March 20. Seven of 15 board members have terms that are expiring in November of '18 and 11 candidates are seeking nominations to run in the November election for those seats. While the final determination of who will sit on the board will be officially decided in November, those elected in the Republican primary next spring will likely run unopposed in the fall. No Democrats filed to run in the primary for county board. The following is a synopsis:
Two terms will be expiring, which consists of Cazenovia, Clayton, El Paso, Greene, Kansas, Linn, Minonk, Palestine, Panola and Roanoke Townships on the east side of the county. Incumbents Duane Kingdon and John Krug, both of rural El Paso, have filed to run for re-election. They will face newcomer Justin Faulk of Minonk for the Republican nominations
Three terms will be expiring, which consists of Partridge, Spring Bay and Worth Townships on the west side of the county. Incumbents Doug Huser and Barry Logan, both of rural Metamora, have filed to run for re-election. They will face newcomers Ansel Burditt of Metamora, Charles Nagel of Germantown Hills and Josh Davis of East Peoria. Incumbent Pete Streid, who was appointed earlier this year to fill a vacancy on the board, did not file for re-election
Two terms will be expiring, which consists of Cruger, Olio, Metamora and Montgomery Townships on the south side of the county. Incumbents Jason Jording and Blake Parsons, both of Congerville, have filed to run for re-election. They will face newcomer Jason Spence of Eureka for the Republican nominations
Dawn Kupfer of Roanoke has filed to run for the Republican nomination for clerk. Debbie Harms, who currently holds the position, did not file to run for re-election and is planning to retire at the end of her term on Nov. 30 of '18
Incumbent Matt Smith has filed for the Republican nomination to run for Sheriff and incumbent Melissa Andrews has filed for the Republican nomination to run for treasurer
