NEW DIGS

GETTING THEIR HOP ON - Tamra Challacombe assists three-year-old Mara Colby in a grande jete at the Velocity Dance Center at the former Conklin's Barn Dinner location near Goodfield.

GOODFIELD - The Studio @ the Shed dance and fitness center opened in January with two hopes from its founder, a healthy and social lifestyle for Central Illinoisans and a strong finish to fundraising efforts for the proposed adjacent Barn III Dinner Theater.

According to Abby Reel, the two missions are intertwined at the site, located just northeast of the village.

"It was a big step to purchase both the Barn and the brick house properties, but it made the most sense when we thought about our long-term plans for the parcel," said Reel, 36, who worked at Conklin's as a teen.

Her purchase of the five-acre property included the 76-year-old Conklin's Barn II Dinner Theater, which was demolished in November after sustaining damage in an August 2016 tornado, along with an 1857 red brick house where Abraham Lincoln is purported to have visited and outbuildings.

In addition, the property also houses Velocity Dance Center, operated by former Conklin's performer Tamra Challacombe.
