ROANOKE - The Roanoke Festival Committee (RFC) has reorganized and expects to hold a celebration in 2018, but it will be different than it has been in the past. Jessica Ioerger has taken over leadership of the eight-member RFC and told the village board at Monday's meeting they are moving forward with planning a celebration as an expansion of the July 3 activities.
"We want it to be more community based and family friendly,” said Ioerger, who added there will be no carnival.
In the past, the village has paid for the fireworks for July 3, but the committee ordered them and coordinated the event. Last year, as the former committee disbanded, board member Curt Leman coordinated the event with the assistance of then RFC chair Glen Miller. Despite recent rumors, the board decided it plans to continue having a fireworks display on July 3. Ioerger agreed to work with the board to coordinate new and old events at the celebration.
