At a Jan. 15 meeting, the village board approved a proposal to donate $2,000 to the Greater Peoria Economic Development Council (GPEDC) in addition to authorizing funding for the Tri-County Planning Commission.
“These organizations collaborate and complement each other,” board president Mike Smith said. "We need to support the people we’re going to when we walk up to their door and ask them to help."
Smith acknowledged that past results from interacting with the GPEDC have not always been transparent and measurable. However, he also stated the village had not been actively asking for help very often. Smith noted the GPEDC may be helpful with projects such as sidewalk improvement and possibly finding a pharmacy to locate in town.
