ROANOKE - A total of four individuals were ticketed by Woodford County Sheriff’s deputies on Monday for failing to move vehicles off the streets following a two-inch snowfall. The fine is $100 per incident. At that evening's meeting, the village board reiterated those found guilty of the violation of the snow parking ordinance would be subject to the fine.
Speaking at the meeting, Public Works Superintendent Mark Aeschleman noted the village continues to have problems getting residents to remove cars from the streets to facilitate plowing. The village annually reminds residents about the ordinance with text messages and messages on water bills among other types of communication. Still, it is a problem getting the public to comply with the ordinance each winter.
The board instructed law enforcement to continue to check for cars parked on the streets, knock on doors and issue tickets. Deputies started doing that on Monday after a snowstorm dropped approximately four inches. According to the ordinance, cars should not be moved back onto the street until plowing is completed.
