EUREKA – Andrew “Andy” George Sprague, 65, died at 3:20 p.m., Sunday, Jan. 21, 2018, at Advocate Eureka Hospital in Eureka.
He was born Jan. 24, 1952, in Bogota, Colombia, the son of Richard and Ruth Reichhardt Sprague. He married Peggy Stiles on May 24, 1975, in Stanford, Conn. She survives.
Other survivors include his father of Greensboro, N.C.; two daughters, Megan Sprague and Karen Sprague, both of Normal; one son, Jason Sprague, Eureka; three brothers Rick (Denise) Sprague, Fairfield, Conn., Jeff (Debbie) Sprague, Hampton, Conn., and Jonathan (Mercy) Sprague, Greensboro; one sister Margaret (Bill) Hunt, Norwalk, Conn., and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his mother and grandparents.
Andy graduated from Eureka College in 1975 with a bachelor’s degree in physical education. He worked for the U.S. Postal Service for several years as a letter carrier. Andy was also a swim coach for Eureka area teams for 25 years, with 16 of those on the high school level.
Services will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. at St. Luke’s Catholic Church in Eureka with the Rev. Eugene Radosevich officiating. A rosary recital will begin Friday at 3:45 p.m. at Argo-Ruestman-Harris Funeral Home, Eureka, followed by the visitation from 4 to 6 p.m. Burial will follow the service in Olio Township Cemetery in Eureka.
Memorials may be made to the church or to St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
