BENSON – Clarence R. Campen, 92, died at 7:40 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 21, 2017, at the Apostolic Christian Home of Roanoke.
He was born Oct. 19, 1925, in Benson, the son Ralph and Jennie Hinrichs Campen. He married Betty M. Alsene on Dec. 10, 1949, in Benson. She died Sept. 7, 2012.
Survivors include two sons, John (Terri) Campen, Chesterfield, Mo., and Jim (Marlene) Campen, Benson; three daughters, Carol (Martin) Kuipers, Bonfield, Janet (Gary) Williamson, Eureka and Kimberly (Tim) Schrader, Machesney Park; 13 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren and one brother, Eldon Campen, Bedford, Ind.
He was preceded in by his parents, one infant daughter, Katherine Campen, two infant sons, Jerome Campen and Timothy Campen, one sister, Esther Campen, and three brothers, Lester Campen, Carl Campen and John Campen.
Clarence farmed in the Benson area all of his life. He also operated Campen Transfer for many years and worked as a machinist for DMI in Goodfield. Clarence was a member of St. Peter Lutheran Church, rural Benson, where served on the church council, as well the council at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Benson. He also served on the board of directors with the Roanoke Farmers Association and the Roanoke-Benson District 60 school board.
Services were Saturday at St. Paul Lutheran Church. The Rev. Daniel Tuhy officiated. Visitation was before the service at St. Paul. Burial was in the St. Paul Cemetery. Knapp-Johnson-Harris Funeral Home in Roanoke was in charge of the arrangements.
