ROANOKE – Jerry J. Hangartner, 85, died at 11:37 p.m., Thursday, April 12, 2018, at his home in Pekin.
He was born Dec. 27, 1932, in Roanoke, the son of Joseph and Nila Snyder Hangartner. He married Melba Blunier on July 5, 1953, in El Paso. She died Feb. 26, 2014.
Survivors include three sons, Jeff (Teresa) Hangartner, Pekin, Jay (Julie) Hangartner, Celina, Texas, and Jon (Kim) Hangartner, Peoria; one daughter, Janese Hangartner, Pekin; six grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren and one sister, Betty Ekiss, Morton.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Jim Hangartner, and one sister, Shirley Henderson.
Jerry served in the Air Force during the Korean conflict. He was a claims adjuster with Pekin Insurance in Pekin for 35 years before he retired in 1997. Jerry was a member of the Tremont Apostolic Christian Church in Tremont and Roanoke American Legion Post No. 463. He was an assistant Boy Scout Master and was active with the Junior Achievements. Jerry enjoyed hunting and fishing, as well as traveling with his wife. He loved his family and was proud to know the Hangartner name and the legacy is being carried on by his sons, grandsons and great-grandsons.
Services will be held Tuesday at 10 a.m. at the church with ministers of the church officiating. Visitation will take place today from 4 to 7 p.m. in the church’s fellowship hall and Tuesday morning from 9 to 9:45 a.m. at the church. Burial will follow the service in the Roanoke Township Cemetery in Roanoke, where military rites will be conducted by Post 463. Knapp-Johnson-Harris Funeral Home, Roanoke, is in charge of the arrangements.
