CLIFTON - Underdog Fieldcrest hung around with favored Chicago Corliss for three and a half quarters Wednesday night before they fell 60-49 at the Central Sectional.
The Knights (19-11) trailed 32-29 in the early stages of the second half before Corliss (23-4) went on on a 13-0 run to jet out to a 42-29 advantage.
Fieldcrest would draw as close as five at 47-42. Ryan Naas drained five three-pointers and led the Knights with 18 points.
“They never quit,” said Knights' coach Matt Winkler of his squad. “It’s a testament to those young men in the locker room. They’re attitude will help them in the long run. I’m so proud of how our guys battled.”
Gabriel Bossi finished with a game-high 23 points for the Falcons, who have gone 20-1 over their past 21 games. Six-foot-10 center George Conditt, an Iowa State University recruit, tallied nine points to go with 10 rebounds and seven blocked shots. The lone loss for Corliss over the 21 games was to Chicago power Simeon.
Notes: Corliss ran past Momence 67-43 in the championship game on Friday evening.
