PERU - An early hitting onslaught was about all she wrote for St. Bede, as Eureka pummeled the Bruins 25-4, 25-16 Thursday night to capture a third straight regional crown.
The Hornets (28-7) recorded 15 kills in the opening set, as they built a 7-0 lead.
“I’m pretty sure that was our strongest set of the season,” stated Eureka coach Tracy Heffren. “They’re a determined team. They know they have to come out very aggressive and they did.”
Hailey Flowers, who had seven kills in the set, finished with a dozen on the match. Six of Courtney Heffren's nine kills came in the first.
PSB (21-14) managed just eight kills, six of which came from Hallie McGuire.
The Farmington Sectional takes place Monday with the 5:30 p.m. opener between Illini West (18-18) taking on Deer Creek-Mackinaw (28-6-1). That will be followed by the host Farmers (18-13) pitted against Eureka.
Notes: While PSB has only one regional championship in program history, Eureka now has 11.
