REGIONAL VBALL

POUNDING DOWN – Emma Petersen uncorks a spike in Tuesday’s match. Despite 11 kills from the junior, Fieldcrest lost in two sets to host El Paso-Gridley (For the Journal/TNT Photo).

EL PASO - The regional hosts enjoyed the homecourt advantage to eliminate Fieldcrest Tuesday night by scores of 25-12, 26-24.

The Knights (16-15-1) led 24-21 in the second with a chance to get to a third, but let three straight set points slip away. One of Emma Petersen's 11 kills put Fieldcrest up three.

“It seems like we play them in the regional every year,” said Fieldcrest coach Jennifer Bartman, whose team eliminated the Titans last year in the Spring Valley Hall final. “I think they (Fieldcrest) were a little nervous. This group has not been in a lot of one-and-done situations, but it’s EP-G. They’re a big rival for us.”

Morgan Ryder, all 5-foot-4 of her, recorded a team-high 10 kills for El Paso-Gridley (15-12).

Fieldcrest swept the Titans in the regular season match approximately one month ago.
