GOLD AND SILVER – Members of the Eureka track teams competed at the John Levingston Relays Thursday at Lewistown. The boys were first, while the girls placed second (For the Journal/Amy Johnson).


Eureka 16, Blue Ridge 2: Daniel Frank smashed three hits, including a grand slam home run, for the Hornets (10-2, 3-1) in Heart of Illinois Conference action on Wednesday in Farmer City.

Fieldcrest 2, Heyworth 16 (5): Ryan Naas provided half of the four hits for Fieldcrest (4-4, 2-2) in league competition on Wednesday. The game was halted in the fifth inning by the 10-run rule.

Putnam County 16, Roanoke-Benson/Lowpoint-Washburn 1 (5): Ben Monge suffered the defeat in Thursday's Tri-County Conference contest for the Rockets (4-8, 2-2) on Thursday.

Ridgeview 1, Eureka 10: Zac Messer tossed five scoreless innings on the mound and provided three hits and three runs batted in with his bat for the Hornets in Friday's HOIC game.

RBLW 2, Heyworth 3: Reed Aeschleman picked up two hits for the Friday guests.

Midland 3, RBLW 5: Winning pitcher Sam Hodel helped his cause with two hits and two RBIs for the TCC hosts on Tuesday.


Eureka 9, BR 1: Parker Williams tossed a complete game two-hitter for the HOIC visiting Hornets (4-3, 1-1) Wednesday afternoon.

Fieldcrest 8, Heyworth 4: Alaina Tjaden's three hits and two runs batted in carried Fieldcrest (2-3, 2-0) in Wednesday's league road tilt.


Co-op girls finish first: Whitney Leman prevailed in the long and triple jumps, as LWRB won the Tri-Valley Invitational in Downs on Thursday. They tallied 128 points, four better than Ridgeview. Trent Weldon placed first in the high jump.

Hornets go one, two: The Eureka boys (126 points) took first in Thursday's co-ed John Levingston Relays at Lewistown. Elijah Skutt won the high jump. Illini West was second at 83. The girls, who placed second to Bushnell-Prairie City/Avon, saw Amy Pineda take first in the long jump.

Eureka sweeps: Emma Argo (1600, 3200) and Emmanual Blakes (110, 300 hurdles) were double winners for the hosts, who took first in Tuesday's home quad. They were joined by Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley, Peoria Quest Academy and Princeville.
