Argo runs to title: Eureka's Emma Argo took the lead with just over a half-mile left to win the one A title at the state finals Saturday morning at Detweiller Park in Peoria. Her time was 17 minutes, 34 seconds over three miles. For the first time, trophies were awarded to the top four teams. The Hornets missed a trophy by one spot, as they ended up fifth. Tolono Unity (108) edged fellow Champaign County school and 2016 champion St. Joseph-Ogden by two points. Kyle Johnson placed 35th in a personal-best time 15:44. Wyatt McIntyre of Athens won in 14:25. Elmwood/Brimfield took home the team title.
Trio picked to first squad: The Eureka duo of Maddie McCunn and junior Hailey Flowers, along with Roanoke-Benson junior Paige Sauder, were named to the first team in the Heart of Illinois and Tri-County Conferences, respectively. Flowers and Sauder were both unanimous selections. The remainder of the choices appear below:
