NEGOTIATING THE CURVE – Eureka’s Emma Argo is out ahead of Cate Atkins of El Paso-Gridley during the 3200 at the McLean County Meet on Tuesday. Argo won the race, as the host Hornets repeated as team champions (For the Journal/Lewis Marien).

SOFTBALL

Eureka 5, Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley 10: Tessa Leman picked up three hits for the Hornets (12-7, 7-4) in the Heart of Illinois Conference road affair on Wednesday.

Fieldcrest 9, Prairie Central 0: Emma Lorton fanned 15 en route to a complete game shutout for the Knights on Friday.

Heyworth 1, Eureka 2: Julia Punke's second single brought in the go-ahead tally in the bottom of the sixth inning for the league hosts Monday afternoon.

Tremont 4, Fieldcrest 2: Alivia Tjaden accounted for half of the four hits for the Knights (6-11, 4-6) in HOIC action on Monday.

BASEBALL

Eureka 16, GCMS 3 (5): Keegan Zimmerman's three hits led Eureka (19-4-1, 10-2) in league action on Wednesday. The game was called after five due to the 10-run rule.

Roanoke-Benson/Lowpoint-Washburn 2, Henry 1: Sam Hodel went all seven for the Rockets (13-11, 8-3) in Thursday's Tri-County Conference road matchup.

Fieldcrest 9, Prairie Central 10: Derek May had two hits, including a grand slam, for Fieldcrest on Friday.

Farmington 0, Eureka 11 (5): Colby Blunier collected two hits for the hosts Friday afternoon.

Metamora 8, Fieldcrest 4: Derek May plated a run with a triple on Saturday at Dozer Park in Peoria.

RBLW 13, Ridgeview 5: Nate Woodward collected three hits for the Saturday guests.

Tri-Valley 11, Fieldcrest 0 (5): Ryan Naas had one of the two hits for the Knights (7-10, 5-6) on Monday. The 10-run rule was enforced after five.

Heyworth 0, Eureka 9: Brady Krile collected two hits and earned a save for the league hosts on Monday.

RBLW 10, Peoria Christian 5: Jake Weber sprayed four hits around the diamond for the TCC guests on Tuesday, as their win streak reached six in a row.

TRACK

Eureka wins down south: The Hornets claimed the team title at the Clinton Carnival for the second time in as many appearances on Friday. Chase Hunziker placed first in the discus.

Heffren takes sprint event: Courtney Heffren won the 400 during Friday's Spartan Classic at St. Joseph-Ogden. The Hornets took second in the team race to Monticello.

Hornets place first: Emmanual Blakes was a double-winner in the 110 hurdles and 400 to help Eureka win an octangular meet Monday at El Paso-Gridley. Allison Schrock took the pole vault, as Eureka finished third behind the hosts and Heyworth.

Gastman prevails in the field: Logan Gastman of the LWRB co-op captured the high jump at the Ridgeview Invitational on Tuesday in Colfax.
