NORMAL — Second baseman Santiago Chirino and pitcher Jose Trinidad are returning to the Normal CornBelters, and the team has added pitcher Cole Brocker.
Chirino batted .254 with three home runs, 27 RBIs and 17 stolen bases as Normal’s everyday second baseman in 2013.
“Santiago is one of the better second baseman we've ever had,” Belters’ manager Brooks Carey said. “He does all the little things right that make him one of our more valuable players.”
Trinidad started eight games and appeared in 22 for Normal last season. The right-hander posted a 6-6 record and a 4.54 ERA while battling elbow soreness.
“We are excited about Jose coming back to Normal. When he's 100 percent he has electric stuff,” said Carey. “It's always a plus having a guy with the experience that he has.”
Brocker is a former Oregon State hurler who is being coached by Normal assistant Vinnie Ganz in the California Winter League.
“Cole comes highly recommended by Vinnie and others,” said Carey. “I'm looking forward to seeing him compete for a spot on our staff this spring.”
Brocker was drafted in the 39th round in 2011 by the Detroit Tigers but did not sign.
