Question: Across Central Illinois and the country, Sunday is Veterans Day, the annual salute to veterans, those who have served in the United States Armed Forces. Do you know what hour it's factually celebrated and why Sunday's celebration will be especially symbolic?

Answer: It was at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month exactly 100 years ago Sunday (Nov. 11, 1918, at 11 p.m.) that an armistice with Germany went into effect and World War I was ended. It became a holiday 80 years ago and in 1954 was renamed from Armistice Day to Veterans Day.
