QUESTION: Police in Central Illinois have begun wearing tiny cameras that record interactions with members of the public. That adds to the amount of weight officers carry around as part of their uniform and equipment. In fact, do you know how many pounds of weight the average police officer wears as part of his uniform?

ANSWER: When a Bloomington officer recently weighed his uniform and equipment, it totaled 27 pounds of stuff. Besides the uniform, there’s also a gun, belt, shoes, portable radios, cell phone, hat, handcuffs, Taser and, if needed, bulletproof vest.
