QUESTION: Summum is an interestingly named tiny, unincorporated village of a few hundred people in Fulton County, northwest of Springfield. But why might fans of Hollywood icon Gene Autry and/or viewers of a 1960s TV hit, “Petticoat Junction” be interested to pass through?

ANSWER: Although tiny, Summum was the home of Smiley Burnette, a close friend of Autry who appeared in more than 80 Westerns with Autry and ended his career as railroad engineer, Charlie Pratt, on TV’s “Petticoat Junction,” from 1963-67.
