Question: Tonight is the 90th Academy Awards. Can you name the now retired, Oscar-winning Hollywood actor who says he learned a lot about life by drinking at taverns in Westville, the Vermilion County town south of Danville, and before he hit Hollywood fame, envisioned he'd one day become a State Farm Insurance agent?

Answer: That would be Gene Hackman, now 88 years old. Hackman grew up in what he termed a poor section of Danville and, while a youngster at Danville High, said he and friends often “went south to where all the bars were — in Westville.” In a 2004 interview with TV's Larry King, Hackman said he never envisioned becoming an actor and during his childhood in Danville, figured he'd go into retail sales or become "an insurance agent, like at State Farm."
