BLOOMINGTON — A longtime Bloomington auto parts store will close its doors after nearly 60 years in business.

Jopac Auto Parts at 1001 Croxton Ave. will close at the end of June, said Jopac President Patsy Rice, ending 33 years under that name and another about 25 as Moran Automotive.

Patsy said she and her husband, John, bought the business from Jack and Kathy Moran and ran it together until this year.

"John passed away suddenly Feb. 25, and I had a general manager named Kevin Kempin who we was working with me at trying to sell part of it off. ... June 1 he was on the way to a golf outing, had a heart attack and passed away," said Rice. "We were going good, and I wasn't in any hurry, but after a week ago Saturday, I knew that wasn't going to be possible."

Rice said the closure will affect six employees, including her; at 69 years old, she plans to retire. The company doesn't own the building, which will be cleaned out, possibly after a garage sale.

"We are not going to order anything anymore, but we are tying to blow stuff out of here," said Rice. "I've allowed my two people at the counter to start slashing prices."

Rice said she's appreciated the community's support over the years.

"Thank you for all the loyal customers. They have no idea how much we appreciate them," said Rice. "And don't forget we're still here right now."
