BLOOMINGTON — Kelley Jordan was looking for the perfect white tee.

When she had a hard time finding one, she stumbled onto a business idea.

Jordan owns A8kelleyjordan, a Bloomington-based women's clothing company she started about five years ago. She focuses on creating variations of the white t-shirt made from high-end fabrics.

The business is hosting a trunk show Friday to launch Jordan's new woman’s clothing collection and unveil an online store. The All White Everything collection trunk show will be 5-8 p.m. at her studio on the sixth floor of the Castle Lofts in downtown Bloomington.

Jordan was working a corporate human resources job in Bloomington when she had a baby and decided she wanted to make a career change.

“I wasn't scratching my creative itch and now I am. If I wasn't living up to my potential, I couldn't expect my daughter to do the same,” Jordan said Wednesday.

After Friday, her pieces can be found at www.kelleyjordan.com.

The garments can also be found at Union Handmade, a boutique shared by a group of designers, located at 3860 N. Lincoln Ave., Chicago.

The concept of the business, she said, is to allow her to work in a way that works for her and her family. That means working around her daughter's schedule and working after regular work hours. A8 stands for after 8 p.m.

The self-taught designer specializes in t-shirts, tank tops, layering pieces and dresses using various materials including jersey and cotton fabric.

Jordan designs the pieces and then the materials are cut and sewn in Chicago. Prices range from $55 to $120.

“It's taken me a long time to get the fabrics right and the styles simple so that they feel luxurious enough to stand on their own,” she said.

Jordan studio space in the Castle Lofts is where she operates the business and holds frequent events. It is not open to the public.

She intends to continue to grow the business with the online store, and expand into other boutiques in the Chicago area and across other metros.
