BLOOMINGTON — HuHot Mongolian Grill, an Asian stir fry restaurant in Parkway Plaza in East Bloomington, has closed after opening less than a year ago.

"We are sorry to say that this location must close our doors permanently," said a sign posted Monday on the door of the restaurant at 2103 N. Veterans Parkway.

"HuHot Mongolian Grill would like to thank our loyal guests who have visited us at this location," the sign said.

Officials at HuHot's corporate headquarters in Missoula, Mont., said the company does not own the Bloomington restaurant, which is a franchise, and had no information to provide about the closure.

The company referred all questions to the local restaurant's owner, Franchise Restaurant Concepts Group of Omaha, Neb., which could not be reached Monday for comment.

An employee who answered the phone at the restaurant Monday said the eatery closed permanently Sunday night. The restaurant, which was adjacent to T.J. Maxx, opened in January.

The employee, who declined to give his name, said the restaurant employed about 50 people when it opened but recently had about 15 employees.

Mayor Tari Renner, who heads the city's liquor commission, said that, to his knowledge, the restaurant, which received a liquor license in summer, did not owe the city any back taxes. The issue of unpaid taxes has resulted in liquor license suspensions that have preceded the closure of other restaurants.

The restaurant received its liquor license in July 2017, about six months before it opened.

The HuHot restaurant chain specializes in create-your-own Asian stir fry meals that diners can watch being cooked on a big grill in the center of restaurant.
