BLOOMINGTON — Robert Lenz, a Twin City attorney for more than 50 years, is merging his law office with the 31-member Meyer Capel law firm of Champaign.
Lenz will continue working full-time, will be a principal of the law firm, and will maintain his Bloomington office at 202 N. Center St. The Bloomington office will be renamed Meyer Capel and Jason Barickman, a Meyer Capel attorney, will relocate his law office to the Center Street location later this year. Barickman will continue operating on an interim basis from Meyer Capel's current Bloomington location at 2401 E. Washington St., Suite, 202, until he relocates.
The change will not affect the separate Bloomington office Barickman operates at a state senator.
Lenz said other Meyer Capel attorneys likely will move to the Bloomington office in the future.
"For me, this extends my career," said Lenz. "I'll have 30 other lawyers for backup. One of these days when I decide to slow down, I have them to help me."
In addition, Lenz said, the depth of the Meyer Capel law firm allows expansion of the practice. Lenz currently handles business and commercial law, litigation, land development, real estate, estate planning and estate administration cases. The merger with Meyer Capel will expand some of that coverage and add coverage in other areas including criminal law, mergers and acquisitions, employment law and intellectual property.
"Meyer Capel is always looking for ways to better serve our clients in Central Illinois and beyond," said Joe Murphy, president of the firm. "We are very excited about joining forces with Bob and very happy to be in Bloomington-Normal."
Meyer Capel, a nationally recognized law firm, was founded in Champaign more than 50 years ago by August C. Meyer Jr. and James L. Capel Jr. It is the largest law firm in Champaign-Urbana.
