NORMAL — Merry Ann's Diner in uptown has closed, and it's unclear when or if the 24-hour restaurant will re-open.
A sign on the door at 100 S. Fell Ave. Wednesday read "Effective Immediately Merry Ann's Diner Normal is closed. Sorry for the inconvenience," and Google's listing for the business states it has permanently closed.
Restaurant representatives could not be reached for comment Wednesday.
Town officials said they don't know if the business has closed permanently, but they're confident something will thrive in the space, which is on the edge of the uptown business district and near Illinois State University's Watterson Towers and Hewett and Manchester Halls.

"It's a shame whenever you have a business close, but it's a great location," said Normal Economic Development Director Sally Heffernan. "I have no doubt the owners will have no problems leasing that space."
The business also has three locations in Champaign-Urbana. Those restaurants remain open.
