BLOOMINGTON – The executive director of the Central Illinois Regional Airport has received a contract extension.
The one-year deal for Carl Olson, which includes a 2.5 percent raise, was approved by the Airport Authority's board of commissioners. Olson has been executive director since June 2005.
Olson’s current salary is now $172,365 per year.
“The Airport Authority Board of Commissioners approved the new contract with Mr. Olson as a result of the progress we have seen involving the attraction of new business at CIRA such as FedEx and others at the airport,” said Airport Authority Chairman David Colee.

“He is responsible for the management and development of safe and efficient facilities including five perfect FAA safety inspections in the last six years, CIRA’s sound financial standing and his continued vigilance in air service development during an evolving and changing time in both the aviation industry and the economic environment. We look for him to continue to build upon that progress as we move forward into 2016 and beyond.”
FedEx Express opened a sorting and distribution hub at the airport in February 2015 to serve Champaign, Decatur, and Springfield. Funding from a $5 million private-public partnership between FedEx Express and the Bloomington-Normal Airport Authority made the project happen.
MDC Inc., a Kansas City-based developer that leases property at the airport, also contributed funds to that project.
