NORMAL - Lovers of Asiago Beef and Turkey Bacon Bravos will soon be able to munch their sandwiches in front of a fireplace or settle into a multicolored, diagonal booth at Panera Bread, 208 Greenbriar Drive, Normal.
The 7-year-old restaurant will begin undergoing an $111,500 makeover Monday. The project is expected to take six to eight weeks.
During construction, customers will be able to order their favorite soups, breads and desserts for dine-in eating or carryout. Manager Mike Winter said remodeling of the dining area will occur in three steps. A construction curtain will cover work areas.
"This will be a whole new layout with purples, tans and lots of color. We do a lot of business here. We just needed to do some work," said Winter. "It will be a lot easier to clean, and it will be more comfortable."
Straight rows of tables and chairs in the dining area will give way to booths patterned in a zigzag fashion. The back of the restaurant, including the bakery case, order counter and kitchen will remain the same.
A second Panera Bread restaurant at 1401 S. Veterans Parkway is not slated for remodeling. It opened in 2003 and already contains a fireplace and cushy chairs.
