BLOOMINGTON - Disaster planning isn't just for businesses. Every person, family and school needs one.
That's the message contained in an American Red Cross program called "Together We Prepare." Scott Vogel, American Red Cross of the Heartland public support director, plans to share details of the program during a McLean County Chamber of Commerce brown bag session Thursday.
The noon program, slated for the chamber office at 210 S. East St., Bloomington, will focus on disaster preparedness for business and industry, as well as emergency planning for employees and customers. Reservations are required by calling (309)829-6344.
Vogel noted that every household, school, church and business needs a disaster plan and a disaster supply kit. At minimum, the kit should include a radio, flashlight, batteries, food and water.
A team of individuals at each home, school, church and business should further be trained in First Aid, CPR and use of an automated external defibrillator.
Being involved in volunteer organizations which assist in disaster relief can provide more training and knowledge for people responding to any disaster, Vogel added.
