BLOOMINGTON -- The owner of a new store specializing in socks thinks he's got the perfect match: a relaxed atmosphere where customer service is priority No. 1.

Socks & Things opened about three weeks ago at 503 N. Prospect Road, just behind Schnucks, said owner Jerrod Perrin.

The store sells all types of socks -- novelty, knee-high and classic argyle, just to name a few -- and undergarments, all for "very competitive" prices, Perrin said.

"You want to give people a place to go where they don't feel rushed, without the hustle and bustle of the larger stores," he said. "When it comes to undergarments, you want to take your time."

Customers who buy three $3 three-packs of ankle socks get a fourth free, he said. Other deals include bras from $5 to $7 and women's underwear around $2.

Among Perrin's more unique socks are Solmates, a high-end knitted and multicolored brand based out of Vermont, he said. He said he's the only retailer in Bloomington selling the Solmates.

And his selection of Christmas-themed socks just arrived, he said.

Perrin, 52, said he's "always had an appetite for having my own business," and this is his first effort in retail. He said he takes pride in providing top-notch customer service.

"Most people come in here and say, 'I feel like this is my store,''' he said.

The store (309-808-0574) is open from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Saturday and from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday.
