EUREKA - At the July 16 meeting, the Woodford County Board appointed two individuals onto the Zoning Board of Appeals (ZBA). Dean Backer of Roanoke will complete the unexpired five-year term of Jerry Smith, who recently resigned. Backer’s appointment will end Aug. 1, 2020. Karen Krug was appointed as an alternate for a five-year term that expires Aug. 1 of '24. The appointments were made by county board chair John Krug, who is a cousin of Karen Krug.

According to county board member Blake Parsons, it has been past practice to diversify appointees by way of the district he/she resides in.

“Traditionally in the past we’ve had equal representation from all districts,” Parsons said.

He added five of the seven ZBA board members are currently from District 1. Parsons noted there were no problems with the appointments and it is a minor issue. Parsons also checked with State’s Attorney Greg Minger, who told him state statutes only indicate ZBA members should be from varying townships.
