MINONK – A two-vehicle accident Wednesday morning west of town claimed the life of a Washburn woman.
According to Woodford County Sheriff Chief Deputy Dennis Tipsword, shortly after 7 a.m., a pair of Sport Utility Vehicles (SUV) collided on County Road 2. Apparently, one of the SUVs crossed over into the adjacent lane and struck the other. Following the wreck, Melanie Schubert, 45, was transported to OSF St. Joseph Medical Center in Bloomington, she was pronounced dead in the emergency room. She had succumbed to multiple blunt force trauma injuries. Tipsword added Schubert was not wearing a seat belt. The other driver, who is female and whose name has not been made public, was transferred from the scene to OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria. Her condition was not available. According to Tipsword, she did have a seat belt on.
Law enforcement indicated the road was icy, which may have contributed to the accident. The crash is still under investigation by Woodford Co, authorities and the McLean Co. Coroner’s Office.
