A two-car accident late Sunday afternoon in Grundy County claimed the life of a Goodfield man. John Stangle, 58, died at Morris Hospital from injuries sustained in the crash that occurred on Illinois Route 47. According to reports, Stangle was behind the wheel of a Ford Escape and headed south on 47 outside of Morris when he was struck head on by a white Mercedes being driven by a teen, who was going north and crossed the center line shortly before 5 p.m. According to Morris radio station WCSJ 1550 AM, Stangle had to be extricated from his vehicle.
In addition, a passenger in Stangle’s Ford Escape and the teen driver were taken to Morris Hospital, but their conditions were not made available. The radio station added the teen was ticketed for improper lane usage. A portion of Route 47 was closed for about an hour after the accident.
The crash remains under investigation by the Grundy County Sheriff’s Department.
